Property overview

Perfect for couples, families, groups of friends, graduation weekends, or as a base for a work visit to York, (apologies but we will NOT accept bookings for Stag or Hen parties, students, or similar booze orientated groups - sorry!) you will find yourself in a pretty courtyard shared by a fantastic Italian restaurant with al-fresco dining, one of the most popular cocktail bars in York and boutique shops.

Through the property's gate you will find a private outside courtyard with dining area, before entering the building itself. Inside you will find spacious entrance hall, sitting room, kitchen / diner, two double bedrooms, spacious shower room and another bathroom with rolltop bath & handheld shower. The sitting room and bedrooms overlook the famous 'Low Petergate' with Minster views. The Entrance Hall and Kitchen/Diner overlook Swinegate Courtyard.

Extra sleeping accommodation if needed includes the sofa in the entrance hall which opens into a double bed, and a spare single camp bed in the top bedroom that can be used (please let us know in advance if you need either of these prepared).

Both bedrooms have Smart TVs with DVD players, as does the sitting room, where resides an extensive DVD collection, plus family games, books and bluetooth speaker.

All bed linen & towels are included in the rental, as well as basic provisions including tea, coffee & cereals, plus we will also provide a carton of milk, bread, butter and bottle of something fizzy! Please note - our listing does not say 'Breakfast included' - but cereals, milk, bread, butter, preserves, tea and coffee will await you in fridge or cupboards to start you off, and you have full access to the Kitchen.

Hairdryer & Hair Straighteners can be found in the lower bedroom. Kitchen includes combination washer/dryer, dishwasher, iron, ironing board, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine (with capsules), toaster, kettle, oven, electric hob, fridge/freezer and plenty of glassware, cutlery, crockery and cooking implements.

Meet and Greet if possible otherwise key pick-up. I will contact you beforehand to arrange this.

The centre of York is home to fantastic restaurants, bars, shops, and other attractions including the Minster, museums, galleries, Clifton Castle, and the ancient walls. Recommended spots are Mr P's Curious Tavern, Bettys, and Phranakhon Thai Tapas.

Inside the famous historic city walls, York is extensively pedestrianised, and most of what you need is easily accessed by foot.

You can drive up to Swinegate Court before 10:30am or after 5pm (but no parking). Nearest parking is Monk Bar Car Park (you can borrow our Parking Permit to allow you to park for free there or several other York Car Parks but please give us at least a weeks notice if you would like this, or you can pay and display or pay using Ringgo App) which is a five minute walk. Alternatively, if driving to York, you may wish to investigate the 'Park and Ride' facilities (https://www.itravelyork.info/park-and-ride).

York Railway station has excellent direct connections to London (fastest is just over two hours), Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Harrogate, Manchester and many more. It is a 10 minute walk.

York has an extensive Bus network (https://www.itravelyork.info/uploads/York_Bus_Route_Map.pdf ) with nearest stops being Stonebow Interchange (4 minute walk) and Exhibition Square Interchange (5 minutes walk).

Nearest Airport is Leeds/Bradford, which is approximately an hour by car/taxi, or by bus from Airport to Leeds train station (30 mins) then direct train to York (24 mins).

A couple of 'warnings'...

1. It is an old building, with uneven floors and steps in places. The property is spread over four floors which can only be accessed by stairs, and the top bedroom has particularly steep stairs. It is all part of the charm, but might not suit everyone.

2. It is right in the bustling heart of York (Swinegate & Low Petergate), and the noises of the City can sometimes be heard into the night, especially on weekends. You will also hear the Minster bells on a Sunday morning. It doesn't bother us in the slightest, but might not suit sleepers needing complete silence.
